Jennifer (Ryan) Sanchez Biographical Sketch

Dr. Sanchez received her Ph.D. in Operations Research at Cornell University in 1986. She taught Mathematics at the University of Colorado at Denver until the fall of 1993. While at UCD she taught Master's and Ph.D. students courses including Linear Programming, Network Flows and Integer Programming.   While at UCD she won the Colorado Advanced Software Institute's Exemplary Researcher award 3 years in a row.

She joined  U S WEST Advanced Technologies as a member of the modeling group in 1993. While at U S WEST she designed and developed  algorithms for network optimization problems. The technologies and methodologies modeled included SONET, ATM, and Circuit Switched Dynamic Routing, SS7,  Digital Data Services, Long Distance networks, backhaul network design, cellular (GSM and CDMA) network design.  These algorithms typically have been incorporated into software tools. While at U S WEST she was part of the team receiving the 1994 ORSA Industry award.

Dr. Sanchez became the Director of the Optimization Group at U S WEST Advanced Technologies in August 1995. She served in that position until January 1998, when she decided to leave  in order to devote more time to the challenges of motherhood.

Dr. Sanchez has about 50 publications on various aspects of mathematical optimization, most of which appear in refereed journals. She has been an invited speaker and/or session chair at numerous national and international conferences.   She holds (with colleagues) two patents relating to network optimization methodology, and a third is pending.

Dr. Sanchez's resume including a list of her publications is attached.
